Letter from Artistic Director
This is our tenth anniversary season and we have much to celebrate. And celebrate we will.
Here in Niagara-on-the-Lake we have the privilege of showcasing extraordinary talent, hearing beautiful music, and being surrounded by some of Ontario’s most stunning landscapes. Our festival is a gem in this rich and varied landscape.
In our first season we held twenty concerts – this year we are excited to expand our season to fifty concerts. We continue with our audience favourites, Mozart and Wine Mornings, JazzAfterPlay, and our Showcase of Young Virtuosos, which always leaves us breathless with awe. Along with these favourites, our expanded repertoire now includes music and dance, music and film, cabaret, and heart stopping spirituals.
And for our tenth anniversary, I take great pride in showcasing three new series: Reel Music, which explores the role of music in feature films and documentaries; a Family Series, with songs, music and storytelling for all ages; and for lovers of Musical Theatre, a rare performance of Stephen Sondheim’s Marry Me A Little.
Music and wine have complimented each other for centuries, and since its inauguration the festival has celebrated this perfect marriage. So this year we are introducing another variety of wine and music: Vivaldi Underground. These three intimate concerts will be held in the Barrel Room at Inniskillin and are accompanied by wine and hors d’oeuvres. Where else can you drink in the music and the wine in such stunning surroundings?
Our gala closing will be the ultimate celebration – an evening of wine and food and song in the stunning vineyards at Inniskillin Winery. It features a three-course, seasonally inspired menu, paired with the finest wines, together with the music of Brent Carver, Canada’s own Tony-award winning actor. He will bring our 10th anniversary season to a magnificent close.
